Mothers Union

St. Luke's Church Mothers Union- (Christian care for families)

We are members of a worldwide mission organisation, funded by members subscriptions and by donations from members and supporters.  Founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner, a Vicars wife, there are over 4 million members in 83 countries.

At St Luke's we have a membership of 27 and meet in our Church Hall on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) at 2pm.  Subscriptions are £20 per year.

We have a varied programme of speakers and social events and a time for prayer, which is central to all that we do, at the commencement of each meeting.  We are actively involved in various aspects of community life, - church, school, pastoral and prison work.  Members also knit for the premature baby unit at the our local hospital.  Being a member of the MU enables us to share and enjoy a time of fellowship with our Church family.  Next year we will be celebrating eighty years with the Mothers' Union.

MU Deanery Festival

St. Luke’s Mothers’ Union hosted the Deanery Festival on 6th September where they welcomed members from Oulton and Christchurch, Stone. This event also coincided with St. Luke’s Mothers’ Union 80th Anniversary. The afternoon began with a Holy Communion service in church when a new member, Mary Jones was admitted. This continued with a celebration in the church hall.

A splendid 80th Anniversary cake was enjoyed, made by Anthea Lavene from Tittensor, whose mother Eve Holmes, was a life-long member of St. Luke’s Mothers’ Union. The Mothers’ Union Enterprise stall was present to enable members to purchase cards and gifts to support the work of the Mothers’ Union.
